Mesquite

Sun Jul 15, 2007, 7:01 AM
A few weeks ago a friend of mine called me. He had cut down a mesquite tree and wanted to know if I wanted some logs. Of course I had summer camp to get ready for, and then go to, so it was only recently that I got over there to get it. What a treasure trove. I got an entire pickup load. One log was 10" in diameter and 9 feet long. The bowls that I'm getting out of this are going to be amazing when the wood dries out and I can finish them. The grain swirls around in intersting patterns. Even the worm holes in some of them are interesting. Some I'll leave in the bowl, and others I'll fill with epoxy.

I'll post a few pics of some rough turnings soon.

Your woodworking is incredible!! What a beautiful talent you have!
Hey,

I think you are doing a great service salvaging this wood. Turning into great art! I believe that every tree that is ever cut down for firewood, should at least always have something taken from it and made into a piece of art... in that way the tree last forever.
Thank you so much for adding "Broken Pride" to your favorites!

[Smokey the Genie pops out, looks in the door quickly, amid more shrieks, then grins at Bugs]

Smokey : "Oh, THAT was a harem, alright! I know a harem when I see one!"

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should get used to the idea.
I want to express my apologizes and condolences for the loss and pain you, MommySpike, and the rest of the Hayden clan is suffering. I was reluctant to say anything at first because I was afraid I would be brown nosing in MommySpike's eyes, but I just could not stand by on how sad it is for all of you as I know how badly loved ones lost to a family can hurt so much. I miss all my grandparents. I hope you and everyone else will recover in time and may come to feel of James to be in a good place now happily watching over the rest of those who loved him.
